Johnny Briggs net worth: Coronation Street star made fortune from his successful career

The family of Johnny Briggs today announced the English actor’s death. His children said that he passed away peacefully this morning after a long illness. Johnny’s family was by his side at the time of his passing.

In a statement, Johnny’s family asked for privacy to grieve and “remember the wonderful times we had with him”.

Born on September 5, 1935, in Battersea, south-west London, Johnny was 85 years old when he died.

When he was a child, Johnny was evacuated to the English countryside during World War II, but returned to London at the age of 12 to start a career in show business.

He studied at the Italia Conti Academy Theatre of Arts.


In 1976, he landed his most famous role: Mike Baldwin in Coronation Street.

Decades later, in 2005, Johnny announced his intention to leave the role.

After appearing in 2,349 episodes of Coronation Street, his final scene was broadcast on April 7, 2006.

His character collapsed and died in the arms of Ken Barlow, played by William “Bill” Roache, after suffering a heart attack.

Also in 2006, Johnny was made an MBE in the New Year’s Honours.

After Coronation Street, the actor appeared in the Cinderella pantomime, shown at the Manchester Opera House in 2007, where he played the father of the lead star.

He also made appearances in Agatha Christie’s Marple and One’s Holby City in 2007.

In 2012, he appeared in a Coronation Street sketch to raise money for the charity Text Santa.

As well as being awarded the MBE, Johnny received a Lifetime Achievement award at the 2006 British Soap Awards for his 30 years of contribution to Coronation Street.

Johnny lived in an apartment in Somerset and owned a house in Florida, in the United States.

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf.

Johnny was married twice, to Caroline Sinclair from 1961 to 1975, and Christine Allsop from 1975 to 2006.

He leaves behind six children, two from his first marriage and four from his second.
