Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda reporting ‘high demand online’ – latest update

, , and have all had to change their way of operating this year with many retailers supplying customers with thousands of more home delivery slots as well as Click & Collect. With the demand for online services high, how can customers get a grocery shop delivered?


Tesco said: “There’s still high demand for our online service, so we’d encourage you to shop in-store if you’re able to do so, where we have a number of safety measures in place.”

The supermarket giant has also doubled the number of online slots to 1.5million each week which is to help anyone who is unable to shop in-store.

Tesco added: “Over the last month, we’ve delivered more orders than before, and we’ll continue to increase the number of online slots available.”

Customers can check when they can get a food order delivered by logging onto their account and booking a home delivery.

The retailer also has a Click & Collect service available where shoppers can book a collection slot at their preferred store where their groceries will be waiting for them.



Sainsbury’s is prioritising its vulnerable customers for home delivery who have been identified by the Government.

The supermarket has also increased the number of slots available and says that it releases new slots regularly throughout the week.

If customers cannot get their desired slot, they should check back the following day to see if any more have been released.

Anyone can register for online deliveries and the retailer also recently made its delivery passes available again after it stopped issuing them last year. 

Sainsbury’s Delivery Pass allows customers to pay a fee which then means they can book up to one delivery per day with a minimum order value of £40.

Click & Collect is also an option for those who can’t get a home delivery slot and this is free on orders over £40 or £4 for those costing less. 

Sainsbury’s also offers a same-day delivery option at some locations around the country. 


Morrisons recommends checking regularly for delivery slots as more are released each day.

Delivery costs between £2 and £7 depending on the slot chosen.

The retailer recently increased its Click & Collect service and urges customers to shop in-store if they can.

Like the other supermarkets, Morrisons is prioritising those who need the service more. 

The supermarket also has a Delivery Pass scheme which allows customers to shop online as often as they would like without having to pay for delivery every time.

Prices start from just £5 monthly and shoppers can pick from a midweek pass or an anytime pass, dependent on when they would like deliveries.

The supermarket giant also has a number of other ways customers can get groceries delivered to their home with their range of food boxes.


Like the other supermarket, Asda is also experiencing high demand for its online service but customers can check online to see if there are slots available.

Customers can see up to 14 days in advance and more are released each day.

Although the retailer is prioritising elderly and vulnerable customers, Click & Collect is also an option for shoppers.

Slots are subject to availability and groceries can be picked up within four hours of ordering for a £3 fee with no minimum spend.

If customers are looking for a cheaper alternative, picking up an order the following day is free on a £25 basket. 

Asda said: “The slots you’ll see depend on the number of items in your basket. Fewer items = earlier slots.”

The supermarket also has food boxes like Morrisons to help shoppers get their essentials.
